The 2015 CFDA Awards

Tuesday, June 16, 2015

Back during Fashion Week when the Mulleavy presented their Fall 2015 collection for Rodarte, I honestly didn't know what to think. The textures, the prints, and even the over-all length - my initial thought was, "How is this all going to play out on the red carpet?". As beautiful and icy as it was on the runway, it looked as if the chances of anyone pulling the collection off right were slim to none. Though, as my initial thought of Bravo's "The Fashion Show", I can gladly once again say I was wrong.

Arriving as one of the night's firsts, Kirsten Dunst opted for a mouthwatering bandage draped Rodarte Fall 2015 dress, that features slight jewels and sheer panels throughout. As much as we loved the boots on the runway, it was in her best decision that she did not wear them.

She may have taken a risk with her low plunging/high-cut Versace number at this year's Costume Institute Gala which seemingly paid off, as we all know risks don't always pay off. As much as I adore Gossip Girls and can be counted in with the many of the show's following, I honestly don't really care too much for Blake Lively's style off of the show.

Though I give her kudos for being on trend with the shocking pink hue (which wa very popular all throughout Fashion Week) and the fit of the dress, the tan lines, the overall tan itself, and the darkened roots just leave me wondering, "Why does she even bother?". I guess it's just a another case of messing with perfection, in this case a Michael Kors Fall 2015 dress.
Elegant, glamorous, and just plain gorgeous - not only can those three words easily describe actress/model Diane Kruger, if you paid well attention to Michael Obama's wardrobe as of late, you will see that they can be used to describe the beautiful creations thought up by designer Jason Wu.

Sticking with the night's trend of wearing New York based designers, Diane wears a modified version of a Wu dress presented in the Fall 2015 collection. Opting for a shorter rendition in a bold red, the contrast of the black embellishments on the shoulder make the dress more appropriate for the night.
As the Spring 2015 runways were flooded with an array body conscious garments, you would only expect the same on fashion's social scene. With numerous hits and quite a few misses, Claire Danes gives us a lesson in how to do it right, in her floor sweeping black Narciso Rodriguez gown. Which was covered in meticulously placed studs and embellishments creating for a see-thru effect. Blake Lively, please take note.
Much like Charlize Theron and Diane Kruger, I consider Molly Sims one of those individuals that have the magical ability to wear just about anything. Though Molly is consistent with what she wears when spotted out, They is something lacking here in this Dolce & Gabbana Fall 2015 dress. Be it her tan or the difference in the sculpted top from the runway version, something just doesn't see too be too right. Though I commend her for having fun with fashion and not being afraid of wearing a Marylin monre printed dress to an awards ceremony. You can now shop a few pieces from the collection at luisaviaroma.com.
As I have said before, when it comes to bringing both sex appeal and class seamlessly intertwined, we can almost always count on Heidi Klum. Well into her pregnancy, Heidi opts for a crushed metallic asymmetrical Michael Kors dress. Hiding yet embracing her blossoming belly. Normally I would give a pass to those pregnant on the red carpet, but when you appear to this well done, no sympathy points are needed. If only some of those not expecting would look this good.

Though Marylin Monroe made a quest appearance in the form of Molly Sim's Dolce & Gabbana dress, model Lydia Hearst channeled Marylin's old Hollywood glamour and appeal. Though I could have down without those paticular Christian Louboutins, Lydia and her angelic sheer jewled Marc Bouwer dress is by far my favorite of the night. Marylin would be proud.

Usually making her rounds in fabuolous vintage pieces, stylist Rachel Zoe keys in the Spring 2015's much loved nude trend, instead choosing a draped gown from the not too distant Louis Vuitton Resort 2015 collection. Finishing of her look with her much adored curls, golden jewelry, and a nude clutch Rachel is nothing short of eye catching.

I may have a soft spot for Ashley Olsen's style, but this dress just makes me want to look the other way. It is not so much the dress, but her in it. As simple and well crafted as it may be, it ages her quite a few decades. She may have a personal style that she sticks to, and I applaud her for that, but this just lets me down a bit.

Quite the chameleon, Coco Rocha undergoes another change. This time the noted model ditches her fiery red locks and takes a detour over to the dark side. Trading in red for black, Coco makes her first appearance out since first displaying the new look on her must-read blog.

Possibly drawing inspiration from her transformation, the model paired her asymmetrical red & black Michael Kors dress with the same exact accessties that it was prensented with. Minus the headwear and earrings, also opting for a smaller golden cuff. Changes made for the better.

Dangeorus curves, what Julia Restoin-Roitfeld gained in this sequined Balmain Fall 2015 number. What she may have slightly lost in turns, her wow factor.
When it comes to what Julia wears, she knows her body and what works for her best. Which at times, always seems to pay off. Having fun with what she wears, but managing to pull back just enough to still earn respect from onlookers. Though that may be the case, this isn't the first time we have seen Julia in a thigh grazing mini, black tights, and Yves Saint Laurent Trib Twos.
New stylist or new appreciation for the art fashion? What ever it may be Zoe Saldana has been doing exceptionally well for her self when discussing what she has been in lately. The answer to new found fashion-forward glory might just lie within her taste of the pieces fresh from the most elite runways. As seen when the actress became the first to get her hands on a sequin and lace Emilio Pucci Fall 2015 dress. One that would only be worn by Fergie a little while after.
Simple yet refreshing, Zoe attended the award show in a dress new from off of the Calvin Klein Resort 2015 runway. Keeping the main focus on the dress, though you can't help but gaze at Zoe, she kept her jewelry to a minimum as with her heels.

i don't really care for blake lively either. it is something about her and her clothes that don't seem right. surprisingly, i like the hot pink dress on her.

How I just love fashion. Rodarte pretty much kills every other dress posted. Even though i love the others. The texture and uniqueness beats all the others.

My my...what should I begin with? I love the simple dress on Blake, plus the fact that she isn't that white-skinned any more. I just had to scroll down a bit to see my next favourite, first Diane Kruger than that Jason Wu dress. How fantastic does that look? Queen of the night is Molly Sims for me, she looks brilliant!
As a bonus, how could I not mention Princess Roitfeld? I mean, you can never go wrong with Balmain and T2 heels, can you?
Thanks for this brilliant post!

I have to go down the list one by one, as there were hard HITS and manic MISSES:

Kirsten in Rodarte - HIT: She was in a very complicated design. So, she was smart to keep it simple with Kirkwoods and small clutch.

Blake in MK - MISS: This was a let down. Maybe it's because I'm just personally not a fan? but she could've done SO much more in terms of accessorizing. What's with the nude/uber light rose shoes? Cmon Blake, you're so young! AWang it up!

Molly in D&G - HIT HIT HIT!: Best dressed of the night. She took a risk, and it resulted in success! Simple black peep-toes and a chic pony - <3 Molly right now.

Heidi in MK - HIT: Heidi should never stop having kids. Her style with baby bump is always fantastic. Keepem comin' Seal.

Rachel in LV - MISS: :s She clearly has the body for that dress, but the material bubble sitting above the hips/sash is so unflattering to my eyes. It makes her look A. like she has no puppies, and/or B. as if she's got extra stomach folding over. Also, she looks like she needs to be hospitalized.

Ashley in ... - MISS MISS MISS: I just don't understand. Nobody will buy The Row or E&James is she steps out of the house looking like this. Trying to prove a point with your personal style is all good, but yikes Ashley.

Julia in Balmain - HIT: There's not much too say about this outfit other than "wor[K]".

Hounourable mentions: Diane Kruger and Coco Rocha.

P.S. Thanks for posting this! It's great that the photos were accompanied by the runway looks for a comparable element. <3 INSIDE MODE
